We believe

technology can most effectively impact student learning when integrated across all curriculum areas.

We believe

students should be proficient in digital age literacy skills.

We believe

students should be the explorers and producers of knowledge.

In our sincere efforts to prepare students for their future in the twenty-first century, St. Stanislaus Parish School’s administration employs a full-time technology teacher and a full-time librarian as well as the full time classroom/subject teachers. All the teachers support the Archdiocesan Standards for Technology which are soundly based on the National Technology Standards and Core State Curriculum Standards.

With personnel in place, the technology infrastructure continues to improve with the collaboration of the administration, staff, volunteers, and contributors.

The school has one computer lab, one library, and classrooms that have been networked to a central server which also has access to the Internet.  The school office computers are also joined to this network.

The Saint Stanislaus Parish School computer lab has twenty-six networked desktops, a SMART board, a ceiling-mounted projector a scanner, and 2 laserjet printers. The network allows access to the school server which in again allows access to the Internet. The computers operate using Microsoft Windows XP SP3. Microsoft Office 2007 is installed on all systems for computer training/school projects. Many other software programs are used on an as required basis. Teachers make use of the Smartboard for interactive lessons, which appear through a projector, from a computer. The school library employs nine networked laptops for students' use to conduct catalog searches and research using Internet sources. These are also Windows XP SP3 systems. Office 2007 and the Destiny online catalog system provide the basic library software needs.

Classrooms contain a teacher computer and some student computers. The teacher computers are networked and again have Windows XP SP3 with Office Versions XP or higher.  The student computers are mixed. Some student computers are joined to the network, also, through the use of switches or in some cases access points. Twenty one classrooms are equipped with Smartboards and projectors and are connected to the teachers’ computers, and hence have Internet access to a great number of educational resources.

Smart Technologies provides many educational resources but the school also has subscriptions to other on-line programs such as Discovery Channel’s streaming software/resources, World Book Online, and Noodletools research assistance program. During the2011-2012 school year, some students will use “cloud-based” software such as in Wikispaces for website creation and Glogster for Poster Presentations.

Each grade, kindergarten through sixth, spends at least one formal class period in the computer lab and one in the library each week for instruction. The technology instructor also works with classroom teachers as they integrate the technology into their classroom instruction, thereby creating a seamless transition away from technology skills being taught in isolation.

An annual Trek for Tech fundraiser, held in the fall, has enabled the school to purchase projectors and SMART boards for the majority of classrooms. A group of volunteers have tirelessly donated many hours to install the cabling, the Smartboards and the projectors for the students and their teachers. Their efforts will continue with the added support of the newly re-created Technology Committee. The committee will review the infrastructure and oversee purchases to support enhancements to the program.

To keep our students safe, we have purchased the SOPHOS Security System:Endpoint for networked systems.  Some other systems will employ the Microsoft Security Essentials. All students are required to have a signed Technology Acceptable Use Policy on file at the start of each school year.  Once signed by both the individual student and their parents or guardian, they must return it to school. And yes, each student in the school needs their own paper. So if there are 4 children in a family we need 4 papers on file.
